Went to push the clutch in today and it not only went to the floor, but it sounded asthough something hit the inside of the front fender on the drivers side. The two seemed connected. The master was empty so I filled it up. Now it works but still looses fluid. I have an 88 F150 4spd with o/d. Does this tranny have an internal or external slave cylinder? I get up to go to work in the dark and return in the dark, so this will have to be a weekend project. Am I assuming correctly that I have a leak in the slave? How tough of a job is this? By the way I have also started to notice a release? bearing noise from the tranny when the clutch is engaged. Are these two problems connected?
It should be an external cylinder. My '89 did this to me once - I was just leaving for a job interview - and the plastic (!) collar that holds the slave cylinder to the bracket on the bellhousing snapped off and the slave went flying.
It's not all that difficult to replace, but do check it out before you go buy parts so you can be sure what to buy.
so what will the slave cylnder look like? and where is it located on the transmission? Right side/left side? So basically the hydraulic clutch can only leak btwn the master and the slave cylinders. Is this correct?
Can anyone give me some tips on how this repair is done. My manual is a ltle vague and has no picture detailing the replacement of the the slave cylinder.
