Yes ,not a fuse.something else on the instrument cluster would not be working if a fuse was bad .
The way this circuit works is the
The bulbs(4x4 indicators) have voltage to them all the time ,the switch on the tranfercase just provides the ground which will light the bulb.
Did you check the 4WD to ensure it worked before you purchased the vehicle?
I'm wondering if this 4WD problem existed when you pruchased the truck or if they have disonnected something while doing other work at the dealer and forgot to plug it back in.
I never checked it. Being it was a 2000, the cab is spotless, a quick look under the truck didn't show any signs of abuse and the miles appeared to be low enough so I just took it for a quick spin and took it. I did get it through a dealer to dealer thing so it was a descent price, not great bu not retail either. We have a dealers license to sell vehicles we take on trade for other items. We sell maybe two a year. So It's my fault for not doing my homework on the truck.
Live and learn....
My hope here is, and this is a long shot is when he tried to move it with out the driveshaft he put it in 4wheel and didn't lock the hubs. When he found out about the driveshaft issue it was late and he just wanted to move the truck out of the way. It really hasn't been looked out since. This morning as soon as he is done with another vehicle he is going to look at it again.

So it sounds like the switch is bad or the wires to the switch maybe the issue with that. Hopefully just unplugged.
Get it out of the dealership (if they couldn't figure out the problem in 5 minutes...) and to a driveshaft shop that could fix your old driveshaft for half the cost of a new Ford part. With a manual Transfercase (this is what you indicate that you have) regardless of whether or not the indicator lights come on, when the lever is in the 4 Hi or Lo position both the front and rear outputs should be turning. If not there is a linkage or internal Transfercase problem. If the front driveshaft is turning and it is not moving the truck then the lock hubs are not locked or malfunctioning. It is not brain surgery.

Unfortunitily I have already ordered the drive shaft and the owner of the dealership is a friend so I hate to pull it.....I know, bad decision but what are you going to do.
On the 4wheel issue, he just called. He kind of skated around the issue a bit and he checked this and that but it's working fine now. Like I said it was the end of the day when they discovered the driveshaft issue and he tried to move the truck in 4wheel. I think he forgot to lock the hubs in. I let him off with the made up story since they are not charging me the time to "diagnose" that issue. Let him save face so to speak. And he fixed the lights for the 4wheel.
Now we are back to just the driveshaft and breaks issue. I will let them finish the driveshaft then take it home and look at the brakes myself.
Thanks for all the input. Hopefully things will run smoothly from here.

The owner is your friend and they still can't be honest with you?????? If they won't tell you the truth regarding some simple mistake on thier part, apparently you value the friendship more than this guy does. I suspect the light was never broken so I wouldn't put much value in them fixing it.
You sound like a real nice guy. Perhaps too nice. If they will avoid telling you what happened with the 4WD, what else will they not tell you that you should know? Better yet, what will they lie about? Did they beat up your drive shaft getting it out?? Who knows at this point.
My recommendation is to get your truck out of their as soon a posible and shop for another dealer or local shop. Let these guys eat the driveshaft and have a driveshaft shop fix your existing one for half the cost. I don't tolerate dishonesty. They are not doing you a favor by charging you to work on your truck.

Oh I forgot to say the truck is a 2000 F350 4x4 XLT Stake rake dually with 63,000 miles.QUOTE]
Mileage seems kinda low for replacing u-joints? Does it look like it has had parts swapped out?
Thats what I thought also but as I have no experience with Fords I left it as par for the course, other brands have their little issues also.
We have many trucks mostly chevy's at our business and I know they can go a lot longer than that and our guys beat the snot out of them. When we are done with a truck it's resdy for the bone yard type of thing. This particular truck is my own and will only be used on a very limited basis.
From the very limited time I have been able to look under it, it did not look like anything was swapped out. I have only had it in my possession for a few days. I bought it, dropped it off at the fabricators fro some unrelated work then right to the dealership.

I did not go back to the my friend with this issue. We were able to solve it at no expense to me so I let it go and moved on. The mechanic knows that I know. Thats enough for me. However, once the driveshaft is done that is it for the work they will be doing.
