I just finished putting the Alpine 9853 HU in my F250 Super cab and that was the best money I have spent on my truck in a long time. Now the factory speakers did not last long. So I am already on the hunt for their replacements. I have been looking at the Alpine Type-R SPR-57LP speaker. I have several questions and maby someone here has some input.
This speaker is a 2 way. Are there advantages or disadvantages to a 2 way vs a 3 way speaker and does anyone have speaker suggestions.
seperate component set speakers are definately the best SQ route
but generally are more complicated to install and cost more $$
and usually sound better with a seperate power amp
these are basically a component set with the crossover attached right
to the back of the speaker-- these sound great-- Ive installed several
sets in customer vehicles-- they sound great powered off head units and even better with a seperate amp
5x7 or 6x8 will fit your stock location
my cost on these for example is $81.90
so they can be had for a reasonable price if you shop online

vfrrick,
I run the infinity kappa componets and love them. My buddy just go an 06 and runs the focal componets and they sound great also. Take a look at my gallery in the interior section at the last or bottom picture and you will see where we put our tweeters. They are at the bottom of the pillar hidden, it is a clean install.
The ONLY speaker that is right for you is what YOU like the sound of.
They might be $300 rockford alpine jl Boston acoustics or $20 Kraco
Once installed they can be any brand you like, even custom made.
Yes I understand and the problem is you have to buy them and install them to really tell what they sould like to you. So I hope you guys can help narrow this down. On a wall sometimes they all sound good.
You take out the pillar cover and drill it with some decent sized holes. mount the tweeter on the pillar. Use that spray on adhesive to sover the holes with speaker cloth. They sound great, I don't think you loose anything with them being up there.
I think it depends on which ones ... I got a set of Pioneer 2 ways at Walmart in a pinch and they were just awful ... bottom of the line tho'. Their higher end stuff is fine.
I would like to think so because I really like the desing of the ones we were talking about earlier. It is also a bit strange that people like Circuit or Best Buy don't carry them. I don't know if that is a good sign or a bad sign. I would really like to hear a pair but I may have to go it on a hunch.
I run JL Audio TR5x7. They are a two way with built in crossover. Need 50 watts, but a good alpine hu should run them just fine. I run them off my hu and have for 5 years now. Great quality, but a little pricey maybe. They were $120/pair 5 years ago.
the speakers I showed you are pioneers premier line
which is there top end
they require a store be licensed to sell the premier line
just like there elite line-- therefore you will only find this stuff
at some stereo shops and stores like tweeter(and online )
and you wont find it at walmart -bestbuy etc..
I install alot of different speakers\brands etc.. for customers
I only use quality products--and alot of the top of the line items
from the well known brand name manufacturers are pretty much
apples to apples
I pointed this model out to you as it seemed to fit your needs
and I have 1st hand knowledge that its a quality product
I know how difficult it can be to swim the the endless sea of aftermarket
electronics to find what is right for you--where im in a position to have to deal with warranty issues if something goes wrong-- I have to be smart about
what products I choose and will or wont have trouble with. I try to hold my
tongue 99% of the time on naming a brand-- as it more often than not comes down to personal preference -- and can often start negative controversy---sorry for that--Ill keep aiming for 100%
