I assume I have a 1989 460 FE 26ft Class C motorhome? Or, is this really a 385 series? I do know it is FE.
I sound like a freakin idiot, I just purchased a 460 fresh in the crate from Ford, they seemed to think it was a 460.
I am expecting to build the engine from what I removed from the old engine. I also think I want to install a RV or mild cam to help with performance and fuel economy. Does anyone know if this cam will help with performance and fuel? If so, which cam/lifters should I get... make/model?
I posted this in another forum, haven't really got any response.
Could this be a 385 FE... It has injectors and a plenum. If so, where do I post my questions. I am trying to find out what I got so that I can ask the question in the right area.
thanks

Reason: spelling
Does the block extend below the centerline of the crankshaft?
How many valve cover bolts does it have on each side?
That will tell us what it is, although there was never a factory fuel injected FE made, and certainly not in 1989. FE production stopped in 1976, and the larger FT production stopped in 1978.
I dont think you're quite understanding. That's fine for now.
All FE's were carbureted. An FE is a type of motor. It is the first generation big-block Ford. The 385 series is the second generation. An FE and a 385 are two distinctly different motors. Nothing that I'm aware of interchanges.
Maybe you're thinking of FI or Fuel Injected?
Although there is some dispute, FE is generally regarded to mean either Ford Engine, or Fairlane Engine.
Yes, I am talking about fuel injected and I guess not FE... I assumed the FE is the fuel injected... sorry for my ignorance.
I am not as scared as I was now.
So, I have a 460 fuel injected 385 series engine.... great!
Now, to what thread should I move my original questions... unless you want to continue helping me out... sounds like you have a wealth of knowledge that can easily point me in the right direction.
I have had two motorhomes with 460's. My current RV has a 460. These are not FE engines. They are however great lugging engines for hauling around houses. Don't let these guys give you too much grief. It's just a different forum. Head on over to https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=53 and they'll help you out.
I got a 460 FE in my lawnmower, can you come over and help me straighten the johnson rod?
Peter
I has been my experience that people often condemn their johnson rod too early. Most of the time it's not a bent johnson rod, it's just that they let their blinker fluid run low and siezed the muffler bearings. It's an easy fix if you have a left-handed Crescent wrench.
