Preparing myself for saying good-bye
A little something for you to think about when you know it's time...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I printed it from the site (pretty) with a picture of my buddy and framed it with his collar draped on the corner.
Stu, we're with you buddy.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
We had Corky for about 4-1/2 years.
We live out in the sticks and our road is a frequent dumping ground for the no longer wanted or sick pets that sorry b******s leave these little fellas to die on.
My wife found him in the ditch, brought him home, and he became another one of our kids really quick. Whoever had him before had obviously taught him excellent house manners and he had an amazing personality...loved to catch food and would chase a basketball for hours (should have been a soccer team's mascot).
A couple of months ago, he started getting in the habit of running off with our Lab back down in the creek bottom behind our property, doing what dogs do. He always came back tired, happy, and filthy...nothing a little rest and a good bath wouldn't take care of. Last Wednesday morning, only the lab showed up.
I left work at noon to go look for him in the creek bottom. Understand that this was a "needle in the haystack endeavor", but necessary nonetheless. After several hours on the 4-wheeler and walking where the quad wouldn't go, I found him.
Actually, I believe I was led to him, given the territory.
Apparently, some other dogs (coyotes?) had hurt him...he was alive, but could only move his ears and eyes and was really cold. Wrapped him in my shirt, got him situated in my lap on the 4-wheeler, and called home to tell the wife to call the vet and get the car cranked and ready. About halfway to the vet, I felt him take a deep breath that I believe was his last.
We, especially my wife, really miss him.
You take care,
Tom
Yes, please get another four-legged friend soon.
We got another Shepherd soon after we lost our's.
We are also fostering two Lab pups from Katrina, great pups if you are interested.....
I put some pics of them in my gallery.

But that's another matter, I'm so sorry.
God Bless those with a heart large enough to love an animal as one of their own.
I started this thread as a way to express my feelings for a dear friend who had lived a full (although much too short) life, only the last year of it with me. I had no idea that the words that all of you have shared over the past 36 hours would have such a healing effect on me. My wife read all the responses up through last night at 9pm, and she cried alot, as did I. Thank you for the heart felt words and stories you so generously shared...
God bless you.
Stu
