Lately my ABS light has been coming on in my 95 Ranger 4x4 4.0L intermittently.
Usually when I turn the key on, all the warning lights on the dash come on (lamp/system test) then go off, including the ABS light. The very moment the ABS light goes off, I feel a "clunk" thru the brake pedal, the truck has done this since I owned it.
Now when the ABS light stays on, I don't get that "clunk" from the brake pedal.
Sometimes the light comes on, sometimes it doesn't.
Just scrolled down and noticed there are 3 of these posts. Sorry about that, I submitted it, then got a message that the server was too busy, I guess there was some sort of malfunction. Mods please delete/consolidate these threads as you see fit.
Do you have 4 wheel ABS or just RABS? If you have RABS I have a link in the tech info thread about pulling the codes. If it's 4w ABS and ODB-II you have to use an ODB-II scanner for the codes.
Thanks for cleaning up the posts, Ken. I don't know what system I have, to be honest. I do use an OBD2 reader to pull codes, I wasn't aware ABS codes will show up there too. I'll plug in my reader and see if I can get anything.
PC4 CODE RETRIEVAL EQUIPMENT HOOKUP
Verify that an ABS concern has been detected (ABS warning light ON).
Key OFF.
Using Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent. Connect tester to ISO-9141 connector located under steering column.
My 2002 F250 4wd just started acting up with this. My light only comes on under acceleration. Mostly when I am in high gear and need to speed up. The instant the light comes on, my motor runs very rough and my speedometer bounces down about 30mph and back to regular speed. In the shop for 3 hours yesterday. Still not fixed. Ideas??
