I just spent about 45 min looking through the forums regarding information on a 302 engine swap. I've never done an engine swap with a B2 before and I was wondering what it entails. I've got a buddy who is selling a 302 with a transfer case and a transmission. So, what I'm really asking for is resources and information on how intensive this project is. Thanks for any information.
One thing on these swaps is its just like a ranger so there are lots of companies that sell stuff for the swap. I have done quite a few and learned alot along the way.......dont skimp on parts unless you want to do it again, L&L industries is by far the best company for these swap parts, motor mounts, oil pan, oil filter relocator, headers, advanced adapters for transfer case adapter
im looking to find out how hard it would be to swap out a 302 and put in a 460 in to a 92 f150 flareside an how much room it would take up ........ i heard it was hard as **** just to get the sparkplugs out once its on the truck ....... another person told me it fits great
460's come in F250/F350's which has the same body/engine compartment as the F150's, so it will fit just fine,a nd you can get at all the plugs.
But, it will make the nose of the truck very heavy, thus the need for upgraded front springs to prevent sag. You can do the swap completely with junkyard parts too.
Motor/frame mounts from 80`s e-van,double hump oil pan mid 80`s cougar/t-bird,exhaust manifolds from 60`s mustang 289 or early 70`s comet 302,the comet also has a nice limited slip 9" rearend which I used in my 84 Ranger 2-wd shortbed,also used B/W T-10 4 spd from 50`s or 60`s ford,stock radiator for Ranger/B2 with V-6 power everything & a/c .
