ok I havea 429 I plan on building up a little. what kind of power gains could I expect if I put on a decent intake and carb, cam lifters that whole bit, ported the heads a bit and threw on some headers?
That's kind of a vague question and really depends on the degree to which you plan to make these mods you talked about. It COULD be as much as 600+ horse or more if you're toward the extreme end of the spectrum for ported heads, higher compression, more radical cam, etc. There's just too many factors to say for sure without knowing more details on exactly what you plan on doing, what you're using the engine for, and what you plan to spend on it.
that drastic eh....well say just an edelbrock preformer RPM intake anda truck avenger carb, a 268H cam and K kit and a gasket matching port job with your run of the go headers?
oh and as for what it would be for, I just want a strong engine for my 4x4, this will be strictly off road use, no highway, so it will be mostly mud, it wont be a BOGGER forsay but it will get thrashed around, and Ivan I woll have to chat with you a bit later as to how you aquired such a lift..I havet he basics in mind, I just need a little more detail.
Figure 375-400 HP and 480-500 lb-ft torque, depending on your altitude and how well you tune it. If your head work is really good and youre tune is top notch you might push 425 HP and 500+ lb-ft torque.
i would recomend the victor intake and go with older heads like c8ve or dove that will boost you compression and deck the block you should be able to deck it a strong 10thou on a dive block and 20thou on any newer block that is what i did and i will say it has worked great so far and they say the eldbroke victor is one of or even the best intake for a 429-460 rpm rang from 2800-8000 perfict for the mud in my opion
That's about the same set up I have allthough I have the D3VE heads. I've never had it dyno'd but it moves my little street rod truck down the road but NOT through the MUD. I like the mild 268 Comp cam for street use.
