Wheres all the V10s

Dealer after dealer, search after search, the only trucks that ever seem to come up are the standard 5.4L and the PSD6.0.

To me a 5.4 for a crewcab is underpowered, and im beginning to think the 6.0 is more than what I really need for power and price, not to mention there seems to be a lot of posts on problems for the 6.0.
I never see any v10s on a dealer lot, or on the internet when searching inventories?
WHY are the V10s so hard to find?

I want to drive one to compare it to a 6.0 but nobody ever has one.

The 6.0 forum is pretty much anti v10 and the V10 forum is pretty much anti diesel.

I've been in the same boat, trying to find a V-10 is almost impossible.

I finally found one, apparently it's a fleet order vehicle so it does not show up in
the dealer inventory on the Ford web page. I managed to find it listed on the
web page the dealer maintains themselves. I'm going to look at it on Wednesday,
if they give me a decent number on a trade, my 05 Excursion is history.

What we need is an unbiased, independent study comparing the two types of engines, maybe using different driving scenarios that yields a cost analysis based on statistical data.

Im begining to wonder if there really is any advantage of Diesel VS gas over the long run.

In the end arent they all just a heap of depreciated scrap metal

Arrow fair is fair

What we need is a fair shake from dealers on the new V10! I understand why the dealers do not have any on there lots. Simple...really. Test drive a 6.0L and the V10...look at cost difference...buy V10.

Oh...did I mention COST here??? Lets see...a $5000+ option or a $600.00 option...

The 6.0L is a good engine. The V10 is a good engine. LET US DECIDE which to buy!!!

The Ford Canada plant that produces V10s is running flat out so if demand for the V10 grows too much Ford would have to increase it's production facilities.

The V10s are going in Class C motorhomes and factory order pickups which is what you have to do to get what you want. I , like many others, had to order my V10 without ever driving one. After owning a problematic 04 6.0 litre , I did not want to take a chance on another 6.0 so I went with a factory order V10 and after owning the truck for 10 months, it has turned out to be my all time favorite vehicle and I just love the thing. The fact that gas now costs less than diesel is just another bonus.

Don't forget that now the V10 has the same tow ratings as a diesel and with the much lower purchase price, cheaper maintenance, and the outstanding reliability that the V10 offers, you must tow very heavy and very often to ever justify choosing a 6.0 over a V10. Polls have shown that we have as many V10 owners on this site as 6.0 owners, probably because the V10 has been around for 7 years versus the 6.0 's 3 1/2 year run that will be over this spring when a new 6.4 engine will make it's debut .
Anyway check out the V10 Forum versus the 6.0 Forum and you will see for yourself that I had lot's of company with my problem 6.0. I also have lot's of company with my reliable V10. The V10 is a great engine and will be available in the new 07 SDs.
Let us hope that the new 6.4 diesel engine coming in the 07 SDs is also a great engine.

It's been done! The magazine was called "Trailer Life" and they compared diesel (7.3L) to the V10 (275 HP model) by towing two of the same trailers and comparing statisitics. If I recall correctly the V10 was ballasted to offset the greater weight of the diesel engine. With diesel costing 50 cents per gallon less the payoff for the extra cost of the diesel option was 100,000 miles. This took into account a mix of towing/daily driving, maintainance, etc. The test was designed to be extra objective because of the sensitivity of the gas vs. diesel debate. Now that diesel is at least 50 cents per gallon more the payoff would be quite a bit longer. While both motors have improved, in my opinion the 362 HP V-10/Torqshift is the bigger improvement over the 6.0L
V10 forum is pretty much anti diesel.
A lot of current V10 owners are ex-diesel owners, for one reason or another. The important thing is the outstanding truck either motor is in.

Check the gas stations. I'm sure you'll find the V10's there.

I found the same thing. Very few V10s (one actually) anywhere in South Florida, only 5.4s and PSDs.

Right off the bat the test was flawed. The less weight works to the 10's advantage. They took that away and made the test worthless. Too bad.

I was thinking the other day that I'd like to buy two equal F-250s with the exception of the engine and put them through a 6 months "test".

Wife is still laughing at me....

Dad is a fleet manager for a Ford truck only dealer. V10s sell almost as fast as they arrive.

The 5.4 is a capable daily driver and moderate puller IF you get 4.1 or 4.3 gears, especially with the Torqshift. Why Ford ships most with the 3.73s I'll never know. It has to be the perception of better fuel milage. Once again, a lower geared 5.4 is as rare as a V10 as far as dealer inventory goes.

Ford shouldn't put any axle ratio gears higher than 4.1s in a gas engine IMO.

I own a V10, and mom has a 7.3L psd. Both trucks have 6 speed manuals in them. The diesel is better for heavy-duty use, and the V10 is quieter than the diesel. The build quality and reliability is about the same no matter what engine you order. I also prefer the 6 speed manual. besides being cheaper when you order, you get better fuel milage and reliability.

I have near me 4-5 Ford dealers. Some small with only about 10-15 super duties and one large with about 30-40 super duties. On average In a 20 mile radius there are about 100 super duties on dealer lots. At any given time, thare is 1 maybe 2 V10's on lots. Most are in XL chassis cab models. XLT's and Lariets are almost nil. Maybe 1-2 per model year you will see.

6.0 PSD's are about 60-70% and the rest are 5.4's

The dealer lots in the Chicago area have no V-10s. The dealer I bought my 05 from had plenty of V-10s when I bought mine but this year I havent seen any on their lot. I will put my V-10 up against the 6.0 PSD any day of the week.
