I've noticed that I'm losing a lot of oil in my '76 F150 4x4 (FE 360).
It seems to drip off the starter, but I can't see the origin of it.
I've replaced the valve cover gasket on that side (passenger's), but I still get it.
Any other ideas where to look?
Thanks!
It is either the valve cover or the intake leaking. Just because you replaced the valve cover gasket, doesn't mean that it isn't leaking, took me 4 sets before I got it right. You need to put the cover on the edge of a piece of wood 20" or so long and pound it straight and flat and then don't over tighten the covers. The intakes are also big on leaking, pull it seal it and reset it. It is an all day job.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
dutch,
Don't forget the rear crank seal! Look on the tranny bell housing and see if its covered with oil or not. If not, it's probably the rear crank seal. That means dropping the oil pan and the rear cap.

Go to a DIY car wash with the high-pressure spray and blast everything on the rear of the engine. By the time you drive home the fresh leak should be visible enough to track down.
Thanks for all the responses...I'd hate to have to pull the intake again, just got it back on after replacing a head gasket. Wouldn't an intake oil leek result in a serious vacuum leak (thus a real rough running truck)?
I know my rear main is leaking a little, but how would that explain oil dripping from the top of the starter (out where it gear engages the flywheel)?
