Finally got my beast runnin today. i got the day off work and i told myself that i would work on the truck all day if i had to. and that is exactly what i did. This mornin i put on my rebuilt holley carb and turned her over a couple times. no dice. Told my dad i was on my way to the auto parts store to get a new cap, wires, rotor, and plugs. he looked at me like i was stupid and asked me why the one on there would go bad. then i asked him if it has been running right since day one. of course he said no. got the parts and a half hour later had them on turned her over and started right up. drove it up and down my driveway and a little on my dirt road and gassed on it and with the holes in the pipes it sounded awsome. never knew my truck had that much power. well i let it sit there a moment while talking with my dad and he pointed out an oil leak. Pinpointed where it was comin from. we didn't seal it good enough around the corners of the intake manifold and the block so in the corner the RTV silicone was blew out and sputterin oil. well i took the manifold off and re did the seal and i am letting it sit over night hoping it will do a better job then it did before. well just wanted u to know that i finally got her goin strong. another happy storie
I had a similar experience the past week. I have had my truck for almost a year and have probably put less than 20 miles on it because it wasn't registered and various problems. So I finally decided to get everything done on it and start driving it. Now I have worked out most of the kinks, have a temporary registration, and am in the process of getting it to pass smog. The good thing is that it runs like a champ and all my buddies at work drool over the 8" lift and 39.5 superswampers.
Took her out today when i got home from school and ran her up and down my road pulled up in the driveway and noticed an oil leak. its comin out the drain plug so i am going to pull the pan and plug up the whole and drill a new one. then i looked behind the intake to make sure it wasn't leaking and i notcied a little puddle of oil so i am going to get the cork seal that came with it and seal the corners with Red silicone. i tried the RTV but that didn't hold.(Two Times).
They have oversized plugs at the part store just for your problem. Or go to any quicklube they should have them too.
I would stick with the RTV on your intake. Are you putting on enough, or maybe too much. Also it needs to cure for a few minutes before you set the intake back on it. If you can't keep RTV on there you will surely blow the cork out too if it doesn't move on you before you get it on.

Chris has an excellent point. The crankcase will build pressure and blow out a gasket if the PCV is not working properly. You should be able to remove the oil filler cap and feel some vacuume in there. Is yours a sealed system or one the has a filter on one side and a PCV on the other?
Also, I'd clean the surfaces with acetone and let the RTV set up until it's tacky but firm and put enough on so that a bit needs to be wipped off the edges.
i have never had an intake problem in the last 10 years using yellow weatherstrip adhesive to hold the cork intake gaskets on the front and back. i seal the sides with blue silicone where the cork gaskets mate with the head intake gaskets in the corners and blue silicone around the water ports at the corners on the heads. i let the weatherstrip adhesive set up before bolting the intake on. works great for me. jim.
well my PCV can pull out of the oil cap really easy so i suppose i could invest in a new system. After two days i keep drooling how good it ran and i think the carb is still not adjusted right but i loved the power it had.
