The old column shifter was too long, hit your passenger in the knee's. You could dry your laundry on it. LETS enjoy the change's we've just gotten. We are trying to change our life away, BE CONTENT FOR AWHILE. Like all cars, the escape will evolve into something we don't even reconize anymore, and wish for the good ol'e days, when an escape was an escape. And wish we had an orginal back!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link and I am glad that Ford has moved up the timeline for a new Escape. This is a competitive segment and Ford needs to keep the Escape fresh but I am always astounded as how stupid automotive journalists and analysts are. They refer to 2005 Escape sales as dropping from 2004 but fail to note that 2005 Escape plus 2005 Mariner sales exceed 2004 Escape+Mariner sales. According to Ford's sales analysis George Pipas, the Escape/Mariner/Tribute line is in full production as it has been for several years. What has changed is that the product line does require incentives to move the volume whereas 3-4 years ago incentives were few and far between. The big questions is whether this will be more than a re-styling with some needed mechanical improvements such as an optional 6-speed auto or 3.5 liter V6.
