went to the yard today and found a '57 galaxy with what i assumed was a 352. i don't think they made anything any bigger back then right? anyways i was hoping for an "s" intake off a 390 but this 4v was in good condition (no stripped threads, still bolted on so i new it wasn't warped, and hadn't had too much rain). the intake reads 5F24 and also C5AE9425C. question is i was just wondering how this one would perform any better or worse than the "s" intake or any other info would be great. thanks
Well no ID in my books, but it is not original to the '57 Galaxy. The C5AE casting denotes a '65 production intake for Ford passenger cars. The 5F24 means the casting date was June 24, 1965.
well it could be that i read the sticker wrong and it said '67 or maybe they put '57 and ment '67...who knows...thanks and what book are you using for this so i can get one?

No Galaxies in '57. The Fairlane was the biggy then.
If it is indeed a 67 intake....it should have the same port size as your 73 heads in your truck (if the heads havent been chaged to the early heads with larger port) Mid 66 and prior....Had the larger ports....JMO
Well then G, since you ID'd the intake as being 65/66 its got the big ports and wont match up to his later heads on the 73 if he indeed does have 73 heads on the truck?
open the head up about a 2.2 inches, then mock fit the intake to the head and look through the valve seat area to make sure the intake port is bigger than the intake.
Just bolting the intake on is an extremely bad idea! Kinda like driving a truck that is 6 feet wide through two trees that are 5 feet apart.
do you recommend any particular tools used to port the head? i have an electric dremel so i'm hoping to just get heads for it and use it for the whole project but if theres a more efficient way then i would like to do that. basicallly i should just port my head to the size of the gasket right? can't go any bigger and i don't think i'd wanna go any smaller. should i smooth out the inside of the intake manifold right towards the end of the port at the head too? thanks again
yeah, carbide bits are the best way to get the job done. But stones will work with time. The blue ones work fairly decent, while pink work for bowl work. The gasket match is up to you, I suppose you use standard fel pro gaskets, they are for 428 cj size, 2.43 by 1.43.
As for the intake it should measure about 2.16 by 1.10 ish. Not a lot of need to work the runner unless you are looking for max power from these parts. If so I recommend tapering the top 4 holes to match the carb gasket. Just round them a little as if you were making the ideal cylinder head seat.
