You shouldn't have any problems. Removing the cats will free up some horsepower, give you better gas mileage, and make it sound alot tougher. It won't harm anything. I would recommend using dual flowmaster mufflers. They are undoubtedly the best sounding muffler available, and they have very little back-pressure. If you do decide to use flowmasters, purchase the 2 chamber model. I have dual exhaust/flowmasters with no cats on both of my trucks, they sound VERY mean!!!!! GOOD LUCK

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Feb-02 AT 06:22 AM (EST)]There should be a casting code on the block somewhere. The earlier motors had it down on the side of the block by where the starter would be. Something like a D4OE-6015-BA would be a block made in 74.

Opening up the exhaust like that may require you to fatten up the carb a touch because it is now flowing quite a bit better than it used to. Just check your plugs after you get it going and if it looks lean go up 1 or 2 steps as appropriate. 1 or 2 sizes on the primaries and 1 or 2 sizes on the secondaries is probably all it would need unless you are also doing other stuff like a cam, intake, heads.

Ben, You better not be removing them cats in central NC unless you are replacing it. If my rememberior is working correctly it is a $50,000.00 fine to remove them. I'll leave it to you and let yall split them hairs down further. I don't disagree, just reminding, because they be looking up here.
