I'm putting my 400 and C6 back together tomorrow, and noticed that there is a counterweight of sorts on the flex plate. The PO had taken the engine apart before I got the vehicle, and so didn't mark the appropriate match-up between the converter studs and the flex plate.
Does it matter how you attach the engine-to-flexplate-to-converter?
Does the counterweight on the flexplate need to line up with anything in particular?
update - looks like the flex plate can only be bolted to the crank in one configuration. So - does the configuration between the flex plate and torque converter matter at all?
You answered your own first question before I could type it out!
No, the flexplate to TC relationship doesn't matter. Just make sure you have the TC fully seated in the transmission before you bolt it to the flexplate. If it's not all the way in you'll destroy the front pump as soon as you start the engine. Easiest way to do it is to push firmly on the TC while turning it slowly until it seat fully in the pump drive. If you didn't take the TC out then you shouldn't have a problem but it's good to double check.
