I have a 1996 F-150 4x4 with a 302cid. I am having a problem that is ignition related and throughs different codes. The only code that stays consistent is the P1351 IDM input circuit fault. I have done all the resistance checks and power checks and I am left wanting to replace the PCM EEC-V. I just don't want to spend a few hundred bucks and be wrong. I have tried to pull codes from a KOEO test with a new Snap-On Solus scanner. When the truck has shut down and will not restart I only get a P1000 OBD-II diagnosis incomplete. The truck always restarts after sitting for a few minutes. It used to only happen when the truck was warm and had run for a few miles. Now it seems to be happening more frequently. Any suggestions before I drop the $400 on a computer?
What codes are you getting out of the computer(the digits)?
It is not very common that the computer fails, it is fairly likely that it's not an actual computer thing, but certainly possible. Giving the code #'s and any other info you can give will help us figure out if it's not the computer. Hopefully you can find a computer to try before ya buy.
Also, there may be a 22kohm resistor buried in the wiring harness. If this breaks you'll get the IDM code (code 212 for us older Fords) Some say its not there but RcDan had it in his 94 so I don't see why they would remove it for 95 & 96
Ohm out the IDM line between the pcm and the icm with both disconnected and see if you get 22k. Try wiggling the harness and see if its intermittant too.
On another note, with the pre-96 trucks, the IDM doesn't really effect driveability. What symptoms are you seeing?

I have gotten codes P1351 IDM circuit input fault, P0320, P0603. I have trouble with the truck shutting down. Once it sits for a while it will restart. This started out to be a running for quite some time problem. Now it is a happens frequently problem. When it shuts down I can fid nothing wrong with any resistances. I will check the harness once again for a wiring problem and resistance or the presence of 22k resistor. I'll keep you posted.
