Transmission problems
97 F-350 SRW with 170k, 460, auto transmission, 4x4.
When the tranny is in OD it starts to shutter, but you can barely press the brake (just enough that the brake lights come on) and it'll stop shuttering.
The truck has lost quite a bit of power in the last year and the best fuel mileage it will get is around 9-10 mpg, with no load.
By the way, anyone have some stock aluminum 'bullet hole' SRW F-250/350 wheels?

That's the torque converter clutch shuddering. The usual cause of the shudder is worn out trans fluid. Sometimes changing the fluid will fix the problem. If it has shuddered for too long it takes a new torque converter to fix the shudder.

Thanks, I'll look into that. It has been doing this for 6-8 months now.
If that is the problem I think the TC clutch may already be shot, you can put it in drive, release brake and the truck will go around 6-7 mph without even giving it any gas, and is a real dog on take off hauling a load or not (didn't use to be).
