i have 3inch down pipe no cat and 4 inch full exhaust. hyper tech programmer, cold air intake and she "ll hit 20psi and then bleed down to 15psi. why is she not holding? i was goinig to put a boost controller but i don't know if its safe?
thats about normal, it takes more fuel to maintain 20 psi its basically surging upto 20 then settling down on stock injectors even with the hottest of programs you have to be hauling butt to maintain 20+ psi. the higher the sustained boost without the intercooler too your egt's are going up quick and the quality of the boost air is gettting less effecient due to how hot the intake air is also. the more boost the more its going to heat the charge air. a boost relive valve to make it so the map sensor dosnt see as much boost helps maintain the higher boost levels the mechanical ones work better than the compressor regulators. i run the one from diesel site.
i understand that, but in 1st gear it hits 20psi then shifts to 2nd then hits 10psi and slowly goes to 20psi then it rides at 20psi for a while and stays there. even when it goes into 3rd and spools fast to 20psi and stays.. thats why i was thinking a boost controller. to help it spool and hold boost
oh yeah one more thing i still don't have black smoke?
i bet you do. just hard for you to see it with an auto. the cold air intake you got takes alot of it away also. i just recently lost my stock air box and i could make it smoke like a chimney. with the 6637 it has lessend quite a bit. but i got a 5sp so i can still make it rip if i want.
if you want the smoke spend the $$$ for injectors.
whats a 5sp? im new to this, but how do i get it to hold 20psi?
5 speed, manual tranny, handshaker, stick
it wont.
when you accelerate you are using more fuel creating more exhaust gasses. spooling the turbo more creating higher boost. once the motor catches up and its not working as hard to maintain that speed(using less fuel) the boost is minimal. like what you are probably seeing right. probablt 5-8 lbs cruising the highway at 50-70. to maintain 20 psi all the time you would have crazy egts and its not even possible unless you are driving like a bat out of hell everywhere you go including powerbraking it at stop signs. i hope that makes sense.
why do you want to make 20lbs all the time anyways?
1 way you can is to hook up a huge trailer and find the longest steepest grade and go for it. then if you dont watch your egts you will be buying a 5 grand plus motor.
i have a hyper tech programmer in it. what do u mean trans it has a e series trans. do u think the turbo is smoked thats why its taking so long to spool remember the truck has 207k on it
fill the truck bed with a load of bricks and try hooking the truck to your house and then it will make smoke and boost.
AS the truck accelerates, it causes the engine to stop making the power because it is doing its job ... moving the truck. This will cause the engine to stop making smoke and boost. hook the truck to a heavy trailer and pull it up a long hill.
nah if your turbo was toast it would smoke like a coal train.....the stock turbo is pretty laggy you can put on a 1.0ar exaust housing and it will spool much faster. with the hypertech thoose programs arnt gonna be aggressive enough. a tony wildman chip will make anybodys truck smoke and haul butt
