I know it's been a while since I've been on this board. Just bought a house in August so that has been taking up too much of my time.
My 88 BII finally blew her top after 250,000 miles. I had to run out and pick up a junkyard motor for her. I have it in and running but now it seems to have developed a small or big problem. I'm not sure which.
As I was returning home from rescuing a freind that was broke down in Old Town, ME my BII started running odd and the check engine light came on. I checked everything and could not find a reason but it won't idle now. When I start it it runs at high idle for about 3 seconds then dies and the check engine light comes on just before it dies. I was told mnaybe the "Idle fuel motor" was shot. I diconnected it and it woouldn't idle even for the three seconds like before.
Any thoughts on this?? Really need this BII in the snow up here in Maine. Thanks

I have no way of pulling the codes and all auto parts stores are closed this weekend so I can't even purchase a test light right now! Besides I have no idea where the connections are for jumpering. Anyone tell me????

Reason: change
If you have a functional check engine light ('88 was the first year), then all you need to pull codes is a jumper wire (paper clip, bailing wire, or equivalent). Ken00 has posted instructions (from a factory manual so it can be a little quirky reading, but the instructions are there and fairly complete) in his tech info post. Any good repair manual should also have instructions. There are several other sets of instructions on the net.
OK....Now I really need help here. The codes I get when jumpering are 51 and 24. What could that be. I don't understand what needs to be replaced. Please please help
Never mind. I figured it out. The air intake temp sensor was bad and I replced it and the coolant temp sensor wire was loose. Found it, fixed it, and back up and running. Thanks Ken00 for the tech info on pulling codes. it worked too!
