Is it ok to run with out header to exhuast pipe gaskets. I hear some exhuast escaping under the truck. (but not really that much at all) it just kinda sounds like quite glasspacks or somethin.
i had two stock mufflers on my 77 i6 and one night i pulled up in my buddy's barn and sawzalled them off, i was runnin split header and the pipe quit right under the cab. thirty miles an hour was ear splitting then, but soon i was running 60 thru the country. man i loved it! couldn't TOUCH the gas in town tho. good times.
that open exuast is the greatst i ran open L&L headers for a while it was great my wife said i will not ride or drive that thing when it sounds like that like an answer to prayer

Not a thing wrong with open headers other than being LOUD I ran my 82 off at the collectors for 8 months... I just didn't have time to put an exhaust system on it... And, when I did finally get around to putting one on, I left the mufflers out, it just sounds to good to muffle... The truck is big, it's loud, and, noone can figure out what powers it, what can I say, I LIKE it

Gday fellas,
I,ve herd about shut of valves that are welded on strait after after the collecter pipes . These can either direct gas strait out,or when the situation dictates creep around quit as a mouse . there outlawed in south australia now but they were a favourite with the street dragers a while back .That way you get the beest of both worlds.

Your right! They are called cut-outs. I've got a cable operated cut-out on my '72 Jeep CJ-5. Awesome! I modifided the exhaust manifold on the I6 and cut out the heat riser @#%$#. So I just pull the cable [cleverly says "HOOD" on it] and all of a sudden my little Jeep sounds like a semi with the "jake-brake" on. 'Outta see poeple look!
I think It ran me $20 at JC-Whitney. Has 2 1'2 OD openings.
I plan to put some on my '78 F-250 so I can sneak around and let 'her roar when the called for!
