I replaced the clutch, had the flywheel machined and reinstalled the transmission on my 67 f100. After this work, the truck vibrated badly at about 1200 RPMs and less badly the farther I got away from that speed. Thinking it was the pressure plate that was throwing things out of balance, I replaced it again - but the vibration is still there (even without the transmission connected). I'm thinking the problem is that the flywheel is out of balance - is it possible this could happen while it was being turned by knocking a weight off or something? If I'm going to replace the flywheel will the flywheel that is listed for 360s in all of the catalogs fit my 352 which I can't find anywhere?
Yeah, it is odd. It's also odd that everywhere I look - in catalogs, stores, etc. they list flywheels for the 360 and 390 but not the 352. If it'll fit, I'll give it a try though.
390 flywheels have a 11" clutch boilt pattern and the 360 only has a 10.5" pattern.....
The clutch for the "normal" 390 is the same one as the 352/360 clutch and they are 11" clutches. There are a few 11 1/2" 390/428 flywheels and clutches, but those are rare. The parts books(aftermarket) list an 11 1/2" clutch as standard for the 390 in the F-series, but it seems that the majority of the 390's had the 11" or they weren't really 390"s!!! We only stocked the 11" clutch set for the FE and it nearly always was the same as what came out.
my bad... i was thinking 11" and 11.5", just ran into that problem with a buddy's 390 we did, centerforce sends ya a 11.5"er for a replacement and it wouldn't work on the 360 'wheel we had.. isn't that how it always works? LOL
