Yeah, the 7.3 doesn't weigh very much compared a lot of other diesels. The 5.9 Cummins weighs about 1040lbs. Hell, Cummins 3.9L 4-cyl weighs 815.
Of course, then there is the Duramax - it weighs 836, due in no small part to its aluminum cylinder heads. I wonder how well they will hold up over time? More importantly, I wonder how the head gaskets will hold up - after all, the differential expansion rate between iron and aluminum causes degradation of head gaskets in iron/aluminum combination gas engines. Unless they have a completely different head-sealing method, I would guess that head gaskets would degrade rather quickly in this application.

Anyone know for sure?
well, as long as the rest of the truck is as bad as the engine, it would seem that the truck will degrade the same rate as the engine. i'd give it 100,000 miles

my dad has an 02 that he uses for work and it has around 120,000 changes oil about every 10-12,000 and the only problem he has ever had with it was at about 68,000 the transmission sensor went out wouldnt shift out of 2nd gear cost him about 300 bucks to have it fixed

umm.... how is this related to anything in this thread?
but it was so random, we are talking about the weight of the engines, and then he goes and talks about how he doesnt have any problems with his truck except for a transmission sensor.
unless he has a durasmack, and was talking about that?
