2006 Harley Davidson Billet Grille Swap

2006 Harley Davidson Billet Grille Swap
Today I swapped the grille assembly of my 2004 XLT to the new 2006 Harley Davidson Billet Grille assembly. The swap was fairly simple and I was surprised at how inexpensive the part was from Ford. It only cost me $154 dollars for the entire assembly, including the factory black grille surround and emblem. All I needed to do was swap my grey surround with the black one. The new grille assembly is also much sturdier than the original one due extra bracing in the middle of the grille. I've added a picture in my gallery of what the grille looks like on my XLT.
As an FYI, the guy at the dealer told me that chances are the price of the grille assembly will not stay at this price for long once Ford realizes that people are swapping these out as upgrades. This is what happened when the Lightning came out and everyone was swapping headlight and tailight assemblies. The tailights started at $30 each and once Ford realized the trend the price of the parts went to over $200 each.
Let me know waht you think.

6L3Z-8200-AAA ... but this may be the p/n for the grille with a black surround. I believe the normal version comes with an unpainted primer-colored surround. Nonetheless, it's something to work with. Some folks are getting there grilles for $125 and up right now. It all depends on how much margin your dealership is trying to make. I believe Ford's COST on the item is about $92.

CarGuy,
The billet grille is an entire assembly. You can transfer your surround to the new assembly after you remove the new one. Another option would be to have the black surround painted to match your truck, but that would add to the cost of the upgrade and the surround swap is fairly easy.

Well, thanks to Casba for pointing this grille out, and Gordo for the link to FordParts.com...I picked it up for $113.53 plus shipping (had to have it NOW so I paid alot in overnight cost). BTW, my local dealer wanted $186 plus tax.
Got it today, no damage in shipping. Very easy install (6 nuts across top and 2 bolts at each support brace, all 10mm), no shimming. It really cleans up the front end, and I like that it retains (and came with) the Ford logo. Came as a complete assembly; gloss black surround, billet, and emblem...even had the little rubber bumpers on the support braces...didn't have to swap anything over but the entire grille.
Pics in my gallery. Thanks again to Casba and Gordo!!
