I am happy to say that i have joined the ranks of those that have changed their own air filters on the psd 6.0. I have an 03 f250 6.0 and what a royal pain in the a_ _ it was to change the first time out. I believe it only took me approx 45 min to an hour to change out along with yelling out several colorful metaphors and the loss of a little meat on the knuckles. Now that I have a basic idea of what to do, hopefully next time will be easier. Good luck to you other first timers.
Just back from dealer for second oil leak 05 f350 psd 16000 miles. We were discussing how many oil leak problems he has had with the 6.0. He showed me a letter that ford had sent him about after market air filter's and that they will no longer honor warrantee's on trucks with after market air filters and soon to be chips and exhaust. He also said that ford has informed him to tell his customers not to top off their deisel because this is causing problems as well. Looks like ford is having some major problems with the 6.0
hey RDR, check out the top of the 6.0 forum for the technical section or whatever its called, i havent changed my filter yet but ive head that it is actually easy to do from the instructions PSD 60L has written.
I was offered a chip brochure when I bought my first SD 02 f250 7.3 I asked if purchased and installed at dealership would this void warrantee? I was told no. Same with lift and wheels, no warrantee void.
Rdr928. I don't know what method you used, but I changed my 03 F-250 6.0 air filter in 15 minutes, and most of that was comparing the old filter to the new one. Ford doctor has a write up on it somewhere on this site. It involves pulling the whole thing out as a unit, unclamping both ends, replace the filter, clamp everything down again, and sliding it back in. One of the easiest things I have ever done, and I'll bet I could do it again in five minutes, without any bloodshed. Try it, no band-aids required.
drfdog, you are correct, contrary to popular belief, these items will not void the warrantee. But they have to be put on by the Ford dealership. I purchaced my 04 F-250(12 miles) with a pro-comp 4" lift, 35" BFG's, Banks Exhaust, and all are covered under the warrantee. I asked about after market intakes, and the service manager said go ahead, it would take a pretty big particle to chip the turbo and all filters do a good job of filtering. I was told that if I wanted a Banks Six Gun and Speed Loader, they would intall and it would be covered. I had a serious heart to heart with the diesel tech, and he said that the warrantee would not cover programmers (i.e. Superchips, Predator, etc.) becuase they are junk and just cause more problems then they are worth. The programmers have no fail safe measure to protect the engine or transmission. He also said he is not a Banks Rep, but their systems are more fail safe and Ford will back them. I purchaced the extended warrantee and it cost me 500.00 more then the normal extended warrantee because of the lift. That it.

Sorry, someone has told you wrong. Even if an aftermarket power mod is put on by the dealer, FORD CORPORATE is the holder of the warranty, and WILL deny coverage. A dealership is a sales outlet, and provides warranty coverave for FORD products. Ford pays the dealr for the repair (and not well, either). Check your owner's manual for what is & IS NOT covered by warranty. No aftermarket modification, including exhaust, intake, chip or tuner is covered, and if they cause a problem with a Ford factory component (turbo, pistons, rings, heads, etc), Ford has no responsibility to cover the damage you caused by using them.
the duke, omcusnr, I am sorry, but you are sadly misinformed. On my warrantee, it even states that my lift, and exhaust are covered. If I had bought the six gun at the time of purchase it also would be covered. You may not like it, but this the truth. Now if I was to put these items on after I bought the truck, they would not be covered. There is a warrantee that covers dealer installed options. This is in place to protect the dealership as much as it is to potect the consumer. So before you jump to the negative about something, you may want to research all the facts.

By whom? The dealer? The aftermarket manufacturer? Not Ford. I may not be FROM Missouri, but I did live there for a bit, so show me in the owner's manual or diesel suplement or post your warranty.
BTW,
The filter does get easier to change after you've done it once.
I contacted my service rep told him I had another ck engine light come on. Also asked if he could fax me a copy of the letter he recieved from ford about AM air filters. If he follows through I will try to post it. 05 F350 psd on second oil leak and third ck engine. 16,000 miles.
I just reread my post, and it sounds like a jerk ranting. I want to apoligize for the "tone". Its hard to have language nuances come out over these boards, and I didn't mean to be a jerk. I just think that Ford won't warrany anything that doesn't come out of the factory. The dealer may take on the added liability of stuff they put on, or the aftermarket vendor may cover it (either through the dealer or themselves), but if an aftermarket add-on causes a failure of a factory componant, Ford won't pay for the repair. I think a lot of people may not know that the dealer is a seperate commercial entity from Ford Corporate, & it is FC that pays the dealer to perform warranty repairs on factory componants.
