My truck has the stock manual hubs with auto and lock position and electronic shift on the fly. It engages into 4-Hi fine, but I cant seem to get it to engage into 4-Lo. I have shifted into Neutral and Park, but no luck. Any ideas on what may be wrong, either in my procedure, or mechanically? Thanks.
Try putting your foot on the brake pedal in neutral. My 06 with ESOF will not go into 4LO until I depress the brake pedal. And the owners manual says to depress brake pedal in neutral then select 4LO.

When mine was new, I had to get going about 5 mph and then slam on the brakes. Sometimes in reverse, sometimes in 1st. It would then shift in (or out) of low range. Since I got some miles on it, it shifts between much better. Also, I do it once a month to keep everything operating smoothly. Try it, can't hurt.
I actually had a dirty fuse under the hood not making good contact thus not letting 4lo engage. Worked for me. A small black box by the firewall on the drivers side. It happened about 6 mo. later so I just replaced the fuse and works like a charm...

Sorry for the late post.. It was a relay. Inside a small black box by the firewall. The box had factory tape around it. I think water and or crud just got inside.
Thanks for the help guys. I finally got it to engage 4Lo by just doing what camo4stealth reccomended. It took some forward/reverse/slamming on brakes to get it to work, lets just hope I never get in a tight situation with it.
You don't have to slam on the brakes to get this system to work.
If your having trouble
your hubs are dirty or vacuum is leaking or not there at the hub or shift motor or electrical circuit to it are at fault..We have also seen a simple brake switch fail cause this.
Also procedure is
completely stopped,no strain on drive train, wheels straight, foot held on brake pedal firmly,in neutral ,then turn the **** on the dash.
If you don't feel or hear the transfercase shift. you have a problem.
Even though the transfercase shifts doesn't mean your hubs are locked.
One other thing excersise it more often to get used to going into and out of 4lo.

Thanks for the info. I agree that just because the transfer case is engaged, it doesnt mean that the hubs are locked. I sort of learned that the hard way. I will continue playing with it to see if it gets any easier to engage. In reality, Im one of those people who rarely have a need for 4WD, I just like to have it when I do need it.
Do you lock the hubs before you go into 4Lo or after?
With the ESOF, the hubs are labeled "auto" & "lock". Normally you leave them in auto, shift into 4hi while rolling. If you need to get into 4lo, you must be stopped, trans in neutral, foot on break, and switch to 4lo. I have never needed to get out & "lock" the hubs. If you are at a dead stop, & need 4lo right away, you might want to lock them 1st.
