Just wanted to say Hi and ask a couple of quick questions,
I just purchased a 88’ E-350 Super ClubWagon XL totally gutted and maintained by a church. Sweet beast, on a 9-degree day it starts up, first crank and no gas pedal.
1 simple questions out of what will be many.
I was told the engine was a 460 by checking the vin code on fords web site all I could verify is that it was a 8 cyl 5.8l 200 Horse. Is that the 460 or the 350? I have no manuals. Second. I have the problem many other ford e series owners have with the funky fuel gauge reading empty when half full and will have to start using the advice in the threads pertaining to that issue to correct.
But, Mine has a weird twist . When I get to a half tank the engine stutters and loses power as if it was running out of gas without looking into it further I am assuming, water in the tank and at ½ full it starts to suck water and Gas??? When above a ½ tank it runs GREAT.
<O Thanks and look forward to being a part of this forum as I convert this best into a custom.
water is heavier than gas, so it sits on the bottom, if there were that much water in the tank ur van would not run. i think the problem is not related to water. as for what i have no idea... but just wanted u know, water sinks in the tank. so it doesnt matter fuel level. fuel pick up is at the bottom.
Think of it like a straw your sucking on - gets a pinhole in the middle and your drink is just below the hole in the straw. You get nothing or very little. The tank will have to be dropped and a replacement tube/tank fuel pump placed in tank. Not a fun job. I would check to see first - if you can check it to see if you have air in the fuel, When it starts doing this. If you do - it sure is suspect for tank suction tube, not the filler tube
