I have a 351m/400,4x4 f-150 with a rear sump oil pan.
The dip stick assembly screws into the left hand side of the oil pan.
When I put 6 qts. of oil and a new filter in the engine, the stick indicates that I am 1 and a half quarts low.
Does anyone know whats up with this?
Thanks
Ford service manuals clearly state that the engine holds 6 qts. of oil with a filter change. Unless you have owned the vehicle since new I'd say that someone has installed a different dip stick, not the tube, on the engine or replaced outer tube because the old one was cracked. 3 options, find a correct dip stick to replace the one you have, shorten the outer tube the necessary amount to make it read correct, remember it reads a quart and a half off and live with it.
