I'm not sure where this belons and since I have a superduty I figured here would be a good start.
I need to find some sort of 12 volt heat tape that I can put on the bottom of my windshield. I plow roads with my truck and the snow always piles up on the bottom of the windshield under the wipers and I have to keep the heat on high to keep the windwhield clear. The problem with this is it gets real hot in the truck and I have to drive around with the window open.
I was hoping I could find some sort of heat tape that would melt the snow sitting down there and keep the windshield clean. Any ideas?
Do you use winter wipers ?
Have never seen a windshield heat tape,I'b be alittle shy of trying that due to heat cracking a cold windshield.just a thought
I plow snow also but since changing to winter heavey duty wipers haven't had too much trouble.
Might be time to get a coffe and clean the windshield bty the time this happens maybe.
Rich
i plow also with my 95 and have the same problem, have with every car and truck i have owned,
rich has a good point about cracking the windsheild something i never thought about. as i simply put the defroster on high take off my coat, crack the side windows and open the rear slider ,i get out and clean it when i need to. heck i even had that problem way back plowing with a 1961 cj.
it's a fact of winter driving problem, get your self a good solid long scraper , and cup of jo. clean it off, clean the ice off the blades. go back and plow some more
I didn't think about the possibilities of cracking the windshield. It isn't the wiper blades, I do use the winter blades and never have a problem with the wipers freezing up. It's always the snow that piles up under the wipers on the bottom of the windshield. I have been keeping the windows open and not wearing a coat, the problem is I am out there for over 24 hours in a row on most big storms and I plow a major highway. Big trucks come flying by and splash slush into my window, making it hard to keep it open. I also have to clean it off almost every 1/2 hour. I guess I'll have to live with it!
i use vent visors only crack the door glass so it's still covered by the visor and wide open my slider . yep it's still red hot inside but it's something i have been doing for 40 years so i guess it's old work to me .
have a good safe winter. wish for no break downs for you
My wifes Subaru Forester has the stock heated wiper tape on the windshield. I think it's mainly to keep the wipers from sticking to the glass. It works well but I've never seen it aftermarket.
jc whitney used to have a after market rear defoger kit but thats way to big for our s/d's. some day the car builders will follow suit and do some thing about it. i hope?
Polecat truck mirrors Ask and yee shall find. I put a set on a couple of weeks ago. They don't get warm enough to do any harm, and don't seem to draw much juice. We haven't had much snow yet, but they seem to do what they say. Now somebody tell me where I can get some for my mirrors. Oh, do you need heated wiper blades?Everblades
Something I've got to rig up is the heated windshield washer setup I've heard talked about around here and elsewhere.

Boy do I know the feeling of snow on the windshield. I have a diamond plow and its got a really good curve to it and its tall and the truck is tall. Still powder blows up over the hood. I put a deflector on last year and its much better although I don't plow roads. Some guys hang a piece of rubber off the top of the plow and limit the travel upwards with chains, that seems to do a good job. As far as removing the stuff once its there its already been said,
I was thinking maybe someone makes a small plow like the big highway plows to funnel the snow to the right. Good luck.
I installed a Hot Shot windshield wiper fluid heater on my car because it sits outside. It works great and the past two winters I am glad I spent $200.

Thanks for the input. I just ordered one and the cost was less than $100, not including shipping.
Where were you able to get one for less than $100? The cheapest I could find was 149.00 + shipping. Thanks!
I filled out the form on the buyhotshot.com website and was contacted the next morning by a sales guy named Ron, who took my order. Gee, hope I wasn't scammed :-o Mine should be here soon - I will let you know. Not sure where to mount it on the really crowded firewall, though. That may be an issue.
