Roping in a New Windshield Tomorrow

I am roping in a new windshield on my 78 F150 in the morning.

I roped in a windshield on my 58 Ford a few years ago.

I read one post that said to use urethane sealer on the edge of the windshield to hold the gasket in place allowing it to cure for one day.

Other posts say to use tape or duct tape to hold the gasket to the windshield while roping it in but no mention of any sealer.

Is it necessary to use urethane sealer on the edge of the windshield?

Anyone ever have leaks when no using sealer?

Thanks.

ive never used any sealer when putting a windshield in these old trucks. Put the rubber around the glass first, make sure your rope meets in the bottom middle, run dish soap all over the groove and rope, best using a friend and set the bottom in first working one side in at a time, once 1 side is in up to the top start the other side and meet in the center top, wash the soap off and drive it.

Did my front, back and supercab sides. No extra sealing for me. 2 years now and no leaks. Helps that we are in a major drought too I see that you use rope. One item that helped me was vinyl covered 1/8" cable. Just seemed to be cleaner with no fiber remnants
