I own a 99 Ranger with the 3.0L V6. Recently it has started with a quick jerking/vibration when i try to maintain a constant speed. As soon as i accelerate or decelerate it quits. The engine light is on and the air bag signal blinks the code 27 at me then stays on. I hooked a code reader up to it and it says cylinder 5 is misfiring and gives me an oxygen sensor code. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this or diagnose it i would appreciate some feed back. Thanks
Check your plugs and wires, obviously starting on cylinder 5. The 02 sensor is easy to replace and cheap, so you might as well replace it, probably time anyways.
I would also suggest disconnecting your battery for 20 mins (the negative side) then driving it and seeing if any of the problems dissapear, especially the air bag code.
I don't know what your code #'s are, but you need to address the codes in the following order: KOEO, KOER, and CM. Within a given group, you need to address/reapir faults that cause the codes starting with the lowest numeric code. Don't go throwing parts at it until a proper diagnosis has been performed; this often proves to be expensive. Sorry, I don't have the airbag codes here for a 99.
27 = problem with the passenger airbag disconnect (PAD) switch. There have been several threads about this, probably the "off" illumnination light has burned out. If so, the whole switch assy needs to be replaced. (~70$ part)
Well...do us a favor and don't let anyone in that passenger seat until you get the airbag problem fixed. Does your "off" illumination light work? Could nail this one right here, even though it is a little expensive (and talk about stupid, replacing the whole thing for a stupid little bulb...). cac, welcome to FTE!
New plugs and wires solved the problem while driving. Passenger airbag light does not light up. Is there a simple solution to this or do i need to check the whole assembly and bulb first?

Code 27 is probably a burnt out bulb(passenger side air bag swtch), for which Ford has no replacement. They charge $70 for the whole module. You can pull the module and get a replacement bulb for about $2 at Radio Shack. The bulb does need to be soldered in. If you don't know how to solder ask the person at Radio Shack if they can do it or show you how to do it, if you buy the soldring iron and solder from them. Knowing how to solder is very usefull.

Yep, knowing how to solder is very useful down the road for anything electronic that you want to repair.
Don't count on the Radio Shack employee knowing how to solder though. I'll bet that most of them don't know which end of a screwdriver to hold. Radio Shack's electronic components section keeps dwindling every year.
Ed88, do you have a catalog # for that bulb? It'd make a great 'sticky' on how to replace it.
I don't have a catalog #. I replaced mine about 2 years ago. I took the mod into them and they matched it up(I remember it was a different color, but worked fine). Radio Shack usually has at least one electronic savy person on their staff. I have been in when that person was not there and I had to come back later.

What is a great 'stiky'?
One of those messages at the top of the forum that stays at the top.
I was thinking it would probably go into the "READ FIRST Technical Information" message.
