how to get tires off split rims

I moved the tire away from the split ring, but it moves back. I cant get the split ring loose until the tire stops pressing against the ring. How is this done? Thanks

I used to use about 3 C clamps from my cabinet shop. For me getting the bead to come loose was the hardest part. Now at age 52, I throw them in my newer truck and drive the 12 miles to the tire guy.Back in the day I changed them all myself and then inflated them with a bicycle pump! The clamps will squeeze the tire so you can work the ring off.... ive used the clamp method works good if you do it yourself and get it apart when going back together and use a compressor wrap a chain around the tire on opposite sides air u the tire in case the ring dosent seat ant blows off and leave sit for a while before removing the chains but im younger than gb but i take them to the local truck tire store they are the guys that deal with split rims discout sears and such usually have kids there that probally never seen one let alone changed one.

Split Rms

Manyolcars

The best thing you can do with those Split Rims, is to get rid of them, do yourself a favor.

These things can take your head clean off, if your not familiar with them. There have been many tire guys as well as truckers who have changed these rims, as well as tire guys killed in this manner. I'm told its a hell of a sight to see, as well as a sad one.

They had a program on the tube a few years back on exactly what you are looking to mess with now. They riged up one of these tires to go off with I believe a Toyota car on top of it, and it lifted the car 4 feet off the ground, thats something you don't want to mess with.

The chains around the wheel is a must if you have to do it, or a steel cage to roll the wheel in. Keep in mind also how old these wheels are and the possibility of the metal fatigue. I have changed these my self before and got lucky, but the wrong roll of the dice and its over.

I sure as hell hope that I have put a little fear into your thinking, as that is sure intended. I would rather read your posts, about your truck than the final post someone else has done for you.

Dump the air, lay them flat on the ground over a carpet, lay a 2 x 6 x 4' long against the tire to run up with a truck to break the bead. Ring, tube, boot and tire come off, or use a squeeze type bead breaker. As long as the ring isn't twisted because an idiot mangled it and the groove is clean on the rim and ring they are safe! I fixed on average two split rim flats a week for 8 years, pay attention and not take safety for granted.
Stories that's all you hear! I'm an aircraft mechanic, try a 5' tall tire with a two piece rim at 115 psi, yes we're dealing in tons of splitting force here and inflated in a cage.
