The blower motor in my '93 Mercury Topaz quit working some time back. I replaced the blower motor, then the fan switch, then the heat/ac control panel with no luck. I've spent too much time trying to trace wires and getting frustrated.
Today I hooked the blower motor to a power cable that I can plug into the cigarette lighter. As far as I'm concerned, it's fixed!
I put a spade connector on the hot lead of the blower motor. Then I jam the spade connecter between the clamp and hot side of the battery when I want it on. Works good for now.
Use heavy duty wires to supply the power and wire it with a 30 amp fuse to the battery. Install a relay between in the positive lead to the fan that is controlled by what ever switch you elect to use (even the cig lighter would work)
This will allow the fan to get the proper amperage and you can use a low voltage switch to control the fan.
Here is a diagram I put together of the wiring of a basic Relay.
