How do I know if I should replace my ECM?
Also, are ECMs VIN specific? or do all F150s from a particular year or years share a common ECM?
Are aftermarket computers/chips advisable?
I've gone thru just about everything else on my '92 302 efi w/ AOD... - ... I'm ready to do it!
Any suggestions on suppliers??
I like my truck & it would be nice if it would only run like I know it should!
What problems are you having? I am having a huge problem with my 1996 F-150 302cid. The ignition keeps throwing codes and I have checked and replaced most major components. I have checked and traced wires throughout the engine compartment. I found that the PCM/ECM costs only about $50 from Ford itself for a 302cid. Thank Ford for the common use of this engine. A quick and fairly inexpensive change. It would probably cost you more to have Ford check the ECM themselves.
I've also changed or tested every sensor I've come across, plus new injectors, plugs, wires, cap, rotor........ et al....
The main problem is I'm running rich - very rich....

Where do you find the $50.00 price?? Best price I can find on a rebuilt is about $200.00. New about $300. But, if it solves my problems I'd be glad to spend the cash. I'd feel better if I had some kind of reassurance before I do this though.
I wouldn't replace the FPR unless you saw gas at the vacuum port, those figures are good. I read your other thread btw. The ECU should be replaced with one with the same code found on your ecm: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=17
I would try removing the EEC big connector and cleaning the contacts and if that doesn't resolve the problem I would try the 'puter' too, since you've seemed to go thru everything else already.
I found the PCM/ECM price on the internet at Ford's website. Ford.com. Mine listed for $48.97 and retail with discount was $38 and some change. But I would definitely check the connector and clean it before replacing the ECM. Have you checked your EGR valve? That can play a role in fuel mixture.
