The other day all of the dash lights in my '86 f-250 stopped working. I have located the fuse and it is not receiving power. My guess is the headlight switch needs to be replaced. Anybody had this problem before?
Also, I have a new engine that I have been building for this pickup. It is a 6.9 and is almost complete. I am wondering what brands of injectors and glow plugs people have had success with and what brands to avoid.
I had a similar problem in a 89, my headlights would come on, but nothing else, so i took the switch out, and realized that the switch melted where the harness hooked into it, So i replaced the switch, but it still didnt work immediately, so i took it out again, and played with the harness and replaced a few messed up wires, i must have had a short somewhere then i re hooked it up and it worked perfectly, no problems yet with it.
I installed relays for the headlights out under the hood.
Having the relay tied straight to the battery and only using the truck harness to activate the relay made my headlights brighter and took a bunch of load off the switch.
No more melted wires.
Only GPs to use are Motorcraft/Beru spade terminal ZD1's (under $10 each from Autozone) unless you have upgraded to the 7.3 GP Controller system. The 6.9 GP controller is nortorious for burning up the GPs, many have gone to the manual push button system.
Well,my personal point of view for GP's are Bosch + a manual switch,I've played with Berus & motorcraft and the Bosch are the ones that have given me the best performance and service, these are 12volt plugs but it only takes 5 secondes to get them red hot.
