so i was near empty and the water and fuel light came on. I drained the valve drove around some light came on again, so i dranied it again. The low fuel light came on so i filled up the tank. Water in fuel light came on again. So i once again drained it. drove a little bit light came on again. I drained the valve total 3 times in a day. Is this normal?
No, this is not normal. You may have filled your tank from a station or it could be because the weather is getting colder, that may have had some water in its tank or because it is getting colder, the humidity in the air can drop out and find its way to the bottom of your fuel tank. This is whay you should keep your fuel tank topped up it you leave it set for a few days at a time. You should try a fuel additive, Diesel Kleen or something like that, this will allow the water to mix with the fuel and pass on through.
thats exactly what happened to me and it was the sensor in the prefilter where you drain it...I was told if your not getting any water anymore and the light keeps comming back on its the sensor...mine (2004 6.0) was driving me nuts too, but no water. I believe its was the pre-warmer burned out also causing damage to the sensor...I think there's a TSB on it too...that what the dealer told me and the fixed it...I think it was in the shop 3 hours.
There is a tsb. I've done it several times drain the bowl on frame, replace the filters, and replace the module on the filter housing on the frame under drivers door. If pcm program is stock take to dealership and let them reprogram the pcm. they charge somewhere around 0.5
