I just replaced the entire front suspension on my 72 F-100 4x4. I upgraded to disc brakes and most of the components came out of 79 Bronco. With the old drums I always had inconsistent pedal fill even when the brakes were blad properly. I always figured this was the bad bearings/ball joints/wheel cylinders that contributed to this( the old axle was prety beat up). Now with the new parts I still have a similar problem. Sometims the pedal goes 3/4 of the way down some times only 1/4 of the way. It seems to work better when the RPMs are up. Is this an Issue with the brake booster or perhaps the vacuum line going to it. This is the only part I have not replaced in the brake system
If you disconnect the hose, plug it, and drive around a bit youcan rule the booster in or out as a cause. If the inconsistancy goes away, you should replace the booster. If it's still there, at least you won't have to buy a new booster........
You should also check the rubber lines front and rear, a line that's going can cause similar problems. I chased that around on my truck for a while, and finally found it when I watched the lines while a friend hit the brakes.
Did n't think about that one. I replaced all the lines except for the rubber line going the rear axle. Little cheaper to replace the line instead of the booster
