That kinda funny, i run the best after i am already rolling. Maybe you could try a different intake, or a spacer to help signal draw and add plenum volume. I would check to see if your vaccum advance is working, i don't run vaccum advance but thats another story.
F-jay, lets talk about that carb a little bit. Okay, it is a 600 vac sec Holley. No problem there. But what are the boosters like ? The boosters a in Holley that comes original equipment from Ford are differant than the ones in a Holley 600 from a speed shop. The Ford edition uses what are called 'annular discharge' boosters. Some guys also call them 'ford truck boosters' . They make a big differance in how the truck responds. Check yours and see what kind you have. Yeah, the KB150s are fine for what you are doing. As has been suggested, you can switch to the shims if you want a little more. But I think I would be checking vacuum advance and timing and carb jets first. Just becasue it is easier and cheaper to do that before you change head gaskets. What kind of tranny does this truck have ? If you are using a C6 you're throwing away about 60hp that guys with a four speed don't have to give up. But that is a whole 'nother discussion. What do the plugs look like ? Are you running too lean or too rich ? DF
The carb was given to me by a chebby guy so I don't know what boosters are in it. The tranny is an NP 435. I think the plugs are alright, I know it runs super rich first thing in the morning but the exhaust passage may be blocked. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from this motor... Like they say you can never have too much horsepower
