Okay, now what?
Wrote earlier about a 2004 ford ranger edge extended cab having a serious problem. As I mentioned before, the speedometer jumped erractically, shifted hard, and cruise control fluctuated on it's own. After the second trip to the dealership, I took it to autozone who got a code on it. Said, yep! it's the speed sensor. Took the printout they gave me back to the dealership and showed them. They ran it and said they were now getting the same code. They told me that my truck has 4 spped sensors and that it was the rear one that was defective, and replaced it. Did fine when I drove it from the dealership to work and back to my house. Then I went to a friends house which is about 20 minutes from my house and "here we go again". When I set the cruise control, it will kick off by itself and I have to hit the "resume" button. The speedometer is back to jumping around although not quite as bad as it did at first. Is it true that these trucks have four sensors and could one or more of the others be defective as well? Autozone told me that if my check engine light doesn't come on, they will not be able to pull a code on it. This will make the fourth trip to the dealership with this truck. Dang!!!! What's a fool to do now?
4 Oxygen sensors maybe!
Search this Ranger forum for past posts on this very subject and learn to check and change your own sensor. I debate whether the sensor was even touch..and if you paid for the service...YIKES!
I know stealerships are bad....but this takes the cake.
As for codes, they are stored in computer memory until properly cleared. That code may still be in the computer, but who knows at this point. Just do as I mentioned above.
Good luck.
