that's interesting, considering they quit making the FE motor in 1976.. they never put 390's in 4x4's ever, or 428's for that matter. they more weight coupled with the higher compression ratios of those motors made them predetonate like nobody's business when fully loaded..
The difference between a 76 360 and a 76 390 is about 10 horsepower and 15 foot pounds of torque. The late sixties ones did see high compression versions, however, after 1972, they pretty much fell flat.
I have a 77 F350 crew cab, long bed, 2wd that is as stock as I've seen. Pics are posted in the gallery. I've seen a couple of others, but I've never personally seen a stock 4wd crew cab....I've heard the Ford made some in 78 and 79, but I'm not sure about the bed length.
between myself and three of my friends we have owned and worked on hundreds of ford trucks the only long bed crew cab I'v ever seen was a 2wd f250 1975
I heard that they made only a 1000 a year. Half of them went to railroad, the other almost half went to road crews, and some went to forest crews.
I was just going to say that the forest-service got their own versions of trucks with odd combinations such as crew cab( or was it supercab?) long box 4x4's. rare indeed, but possible that they're out there.
I have a 77 f350 2wd and I have owned 10 of the 73-79 crewcabs and I never have had, seen, or heard of a factory longbox 4x4. It's hard enough to find a shortbox 4x4. I'm trying to thin the heard a little if anyone is interested.
I have a 73 f350 crew cab long box 2wd converted to a 4x4. Rare truck at that. Is in mid stage of prep for paint and some more power into the 390. Took me some time to find this truck and now need to tweak it.
