I have an automatic with the column shifter. Now the indicator for the gears is supposed to be illuminated when the lights are on right? So how the h*ll do you find and replace the lightbulb that's supposed to do the illuminating??
Both of my trucks light up the indicator on the column. One's a 78 other is a 79. Vampiro, you probably have a bad contact between the light socket and the printed circuit. Mine had the same problem untill I pulled it apart and cleaned everything up.
Mine on my 79 lights when it feels like it. Usually when I shift it or jiggle the handle it will light up. From what it looks like you have to pull the collar off the column which means the steering wheel and turn signal switch has to come out. I know where my gear positions are so I didnt bother to fix it. Probably a bad contact in the socket.
The gear indicator clips onto the steering column. When it's off you'll find a bulb identical to what's in the instument panel. Either your bulb has burned out or a bad connection. Be careful removing the gear indicator. Good luck.
All,
Last post is correct. You must pull steering wheel. Light is equal the instrument panel light. Illuminates the plexiglass indicators. It will dim with the lights also.
