Oil pressure

Here is the deal guys, Last week when i pulled into my drive, my oil pressure guage dropped to nill. I replaced the sender and nothing, put a mech guage on there and got 25-30 at idle and would drop to 10 when i hit the gas. Whats up with this. i am planning on replacing the oil pump and all components this weekend, i just want to get some more info on what i need to do in there other than inspect the bearings and rod.

A little info on the truck 1994 ford bronco with a 302, 186000 miles no blow by, no knock, had a lifter tick after this happened, truck hasnt been moved since this started. No noise coming from anywhere below side or top of motor. no knocks or anything like that. do you think it was just oil pump on its last leg and i caught it in time or what? also no loss of power, and everything other than lifter tick and oil pressure is good to go.

thanks

ken

It may be the pump. I've most often seen oil pressure go down with more rpm, when one or more rod bearings are worn. Centrifugal force slings oil out. Who knows?...

Actually, if oil pressure falls too low at idle, that is indicative of worn bearings. In that case, oil pressure will pick up as RPM increases. But, in your case, it seems that oil pressure actually falls as RPM picks up. The only explanation I have heard for this is debris in the oil pan. At idle, the pump is not spinning very fast and the debris is allowed to settle. However as RPM picks up and the pump spins faster, the debris is drawn toward the pickup screen and stays there, blocking the volume of incoming oil. I hope someone else can add more to this story.

That is what leads me to believe it is the pump. I will find out for sure this weekend i guess.

Actually, if oil pressure falls to low at idle, it is a sign of worn MAIN bearings.

Not pulling motor going to lift it up. Got a normal melling pump, not running a street racer so i didnt see the need for a HV pump. thanks

remove the upper intake so you have more room to move the engine up. it still gonna be a tight spot to work from
