Lightbulb F150 sequential injection???

I was wondering if the 5.0L engine in an F150 was ever sequential fuel injection like the mustang HO's? If so does anyone know what year and did it use mass air? Just thinking that if they did and used the E4OD trans. it would be an easier swap for me. I have a 92.

So a 96 F150 ecu, mass air sensor and wiring harness will give me about the same results as swapping to a mustang maf swap? Am I right on this?

Yes, the 96/97 ECU for the 302/351 or 460 engine (depending what you have) will give you sequential and mass air.

The ODB-II stuff you can ignore, or route to a connector inside the cab, or under the hood, or whatever floats your boat.

The advantage of the 96/97 mass air truck system its easily adapted, and if you fine an EEC that matches your engine, all the hard work is done. Just a couple of extra wires you'll have to splice to the power wiring that goes through the firewall, not too bad (plus the ODB-II connector if that interests you).

To go the mustang route, unless you have a 302 now, you have to modify the tables in the computer for the larger engine. Totally doable, but you need to buy another tool (Tweecer, for example) and adjust accordingly. Since you have a 5.0L, this would work for you as well.

When I read your initial post, I didn't see 5.0L for some reason. Maybe I had a caffiene crash

When you say splice a couple extra wires to the power wiring what exactly do you mean? I though that the OBD2 system was a lot more complicated and you had to use all the features of the system or it would not work right. Is this true? I do have the 5.0L E4OD. SO I could just swap these parts over and not worry about all the rest of the obd2 stuff right? I would have to change my ignition system over to DIS because I read on www.fordfuelinjection. that all 5.0L's after 96 were dis Is this true? You are the man Fredrick!!

Remember that the EEC is outside the truck, from a wiring perspective. It mounts inside, through the firewall, but the connector hangs out into the open space of the engine compartment. Right next to it, is another connector that feeds power to the fusebox inside, and returns power post-fuse, to various things under the hood, including the EEC. You'll have to tap these wires when you replace the EEC and the EEC connector, if you use the 96/97 EEC, as it's an EECV not an EECIV like you have now - the new one has more wires.

If you use the mustang EEC you mentioned, that's an EECIV, and can plug into the EEC connector as you have it, and power is there already. You just have to move a few pins around and add the MAF pins and wiring, a junkyard item for sure.

I am of the opinion that the EECV ODB-II system is no more complicated than the older, EECIV, just a few more wires and so forth. The processer is faster, the unit has more memory, and the connector on the EEC has more pins. This means someday, if you're into reverse engineering, you can get the EECV to do more stuff than just run the engine. Things like talk to body controllers that the fancier Lincolns have, for example.

If you have an E40D, then the 96/97 EEC/wiring swap is the easiest choice, as support for that tranny is built right in. It's *not* in the mustang EEC's of 89-93 that I know of. Someone else could better answer that question.

If you use the 96/97 truck mass air setup, you can retain your dizzy. I had it running on my 351W for a short while, until I put it back to stock. I made an EECIV to EECV adaptor to test it out, and it worked very well actually. But I took it out to play with the EECV a bit because ultimately, I do want to run DIS on the new motor, which is a 500cid twin-turbo type thing. So, the truck is now back to being EECIV and my workbench is EECV and I have dis packs and stuff all over the place wired together with alligator clips and wire nuts. It seems to work on the bench, but Iw on't be playing with it until it's warm again, next spring, at which time I'll unload all my mustang stuff I've collected because they won't be useful to me any longer. I originally was going with the Mustang mass air stuff, but i wanted ODB-II, which the mustang bits didn't have. See, I like OBD-II
