I don't know if this is in the correct forum or not. I recently purchased a 56 f-100 that has several scratches in the windshiled from the wipers being bad (at some point). I doubt that anything will repair it, but is there some sort of polish or process that I can do to make them less noticible?
Replacing the glass is a future option, but expensive.
Hey Brian,i install autoglass for a living. If the scratches are deep enough to feel with your finger nail the there is nothing you can do. There is a polish for this but you would probably distort the glass before the scratches disappear.
Ahh.....ok. I figured I would have to live with them until I get a new windshield. Thanks for the information. Its nice to have pros around to ask these thing.
you can use scratch removers but most do not work..or you need to use a plastic polish formulated to cure this problem. A good polish will not only remove scratches and imperfections but will also leave a protective film behind. By using these polishes you also bring back the optical clarity of the windshield eliminating distortion and glare.
Cerium oxide is exactly the stuff i was talking about.Once again I will say that if you polish too much in one spot it will distort the glass. It will also give it a nice rainbow effect.Hey Bigdawgkp, you can try a solution of vinegar and water and use some old newspapers. If it's really bad like acid rain spots you can use a mirofinishing rubbing compound on it.Just don't buff too long in one place as it could create a halo effect.
