I've been saving nickels and dimes. After talking to some you here I had decided to bite the bullet and order up a EZ Wiring harness and get the truck wired so I could get it over to the muffler shop and get an exhaust system installed.
My son comes home from school and hands me a newsletter whith a reminder that the deposit for the marching band's spring trip is due ($200) and then my boy hands me the paper work and forms so he can start drivers ed ($200)
AAAGGHHHH!!!!!!!! I watched as my dreams of the harness flew out the window quickly followed by the exhaust system.
Kids, dontcha just love 'em?? (boy teenagers are expensive)
So, back to square one. I started pulling apart several old wiring harnesses left over from my mechanicing days and started making me an engine harness. I was able to eliminate the need for numerous engine bay circuits by installing my later model electronic ignition and internally regulated alternator so the weekend wasn't a total loss.
Yeah don't you just love us? Hehehehe. I don't remember the drivers ed costing that much, but it was more expensive than I thiught it should be. I was never in band so tha expense wasn't there. Just buy him an exhaust system and wiring harness for Christmas. I buy my dad what I want. Better start saving your pennies again.
When I was in highschool my dad realized he really wasn't going to have the opprotunity to mess around with old cars anymore so he went out and picked up a '67 F100 for me to mess with.
It was primarily my project ("if you want to drive, there it is. get it working.") but it also gave him something that he could go out and mess with from time to time and made it so when I got stuck I'd come back and ask 'it is/isn't doing this. what is it?'
it also made it like hotrod said, he wanted the truck done (and so did I) so I'd get things like fenders and a tailgate for christmas.
Thanks guys,
I remember my dads project sitting for long periods too.
I'll find a way to make it all work it'll just take longer. I tried to break the kids of their nasty habit of wanting to eat three times (or more) a day but I just couldn't get them to work with me on it.
I did make some decent progress on an engine harness
I hear ya, I have a daughter too. What I had meant to say was...
Boy!!! Teenagers are expensive, or Man!! teenagers are expensive, or Holy Cow!!! teenagers are expensive, or Great Googlymoogly!! teenagers are expensive.
Its all good, I wouldn't trade them (I might have last week when I got their progress reports)
My old man always said 'Tools are expensive, but they're cheaper than lawyers.' Figured so long as i was being productive tools may cost alot, but at least i'm learning something and can contribute back to society.
Bobby-
The cost of teenagers and college is why you see so many "older" guys in hotrods and trucks..............we couldn't afford any of it when they were still at home.
My wife reminds me of this anytime I lement that I have not been able to work on the truck. At least the disassembly process takes lots of time, and for the most part, is free.
My Dad's Cuda sat in a barn for about 10 years before we pulled it out and worked on it. Now that my brother and I are gone, the car has achived the status Dad wanted for it.
