Floor pan question

I am stripping the interior of my 56 F100 and when I removed the bench seat there is a metal strip that sticks up about 2 in. from the floor pan. What is this for and it looks like it's welded in place to the floor. The gas tank has been removed and put under the bed, could this be a left over part. I would like to bend it down so I can carpet over it. Any idea's what this was for?

Got any pics so that I would know where exactly to look? I just bought a 56 the other day, but have not looked that close behind the seat. My gas tank is still in there.

I think I know what piece your talking about, but I don't know what it is for. I know I just cut mine off, flush with the floor, with a cutting wheel.

It's actually spot welded to the floor. You should be able to pry it off with a really big screw driver.

I took an angle grinder and cut mine off almost flush with the floor, then used the screw driver to pop off the rest of it. No problems, didn't leave any holes in the floor.......

I heard that the angle was there to keep packages from going under the seat. I plan to remove mine when I get that far.
