On my 06 F350 PSD I have noticed that my transmission oil temp gauge rises to mid scale much sooner that the engine coolant temperature gauge. This seems backwards to me, especially now that I am driving in near zero degress Celsius temperatures. I would expect to see the transmission oil temperature lagging that of the engine (as it did in my previous GM truck) Has anyone else seen this type of gauge response? If not, is it possible that my gauges have had their wires switched?
The transmission gauge is an idiot light. You can let the truck idle (essentially no transmission heat) and it'll come up to "operating temp." Don't trust it... by the time it starts moving up, Bad Things have already happened to your transmission. You should look into aftermarket gauges.
yes, do not trust it. i have heard of cases where people have a true temp gauge, and compare it to the idiot light. when the gauge was halfway, the temp was around 100*, and it stayed there when the temp was 180*.
I blew 2 transmissions in my old Excursion and the temp gauge did not move above the mid point. I installed an aftermarket temp gauge and it ran 240° to 250° and the indash temp gauge still sat on the mid point.
DO NOT TRUST IT.
I am going to install temp gauges in my 350 before I haul my boat.
These are the type I like.. http://www.dieselmanor.com/isspro/r6..._transtemp.asp
My Factory Tranny Temp Gauge Does The Same Thing.
All I Have To Do Is Turn The Key On And The Gauge Goes Straight To Operating Range. What A Waste Of Instrument Panel Space.... And What An Insult From Ford Motor Company.
Yeh, the gauges just are worth a damn. If you're interested I had this guy put a package together for me which includes the underdash pod, the trans temps guage, the oil temp gauge, and a voltmeter, with all sending units and ect included and the pod painted to match for like $196. The web site is at www.speedsolutions.net. I think he still has it listed at the bottom of the page under the autometer page. (I hope so I still have to place my order, lol.)
