New Wife Comes with Truck!

I am getting married soon to a wonderful lady. She comes with a 1999 F-350 Crew Cab, 7.3 power stroke diesel, 4X4 dualie. It has 48K miles. I would like to know what is the stuff that I should add to the coolant and where exactly is the fuel filter and petcock to drain water from the fuel line. I managed to change the oil today but need to do these other things before the winter sets in.. Also, which battery should I hook a trickle charger to, passenger or driver side.
Thanks for all your help! We need it!

Welcome to your new home. There are a lot of intelligent people here that will be able to help you out. I am NOT one of them, but Ill try.

"where exactly is the fuel filter"
It sits above the the HPOP. You will need to remove the powerstroke cover- its underneath. You will then see the black screw cap that needs to come off (looks like it takes a big allen wrench). The drain plug is a yellow valve right behind the fuel bowl.

"Also, which battery should I hook a trickle charger to"
NO NO NO. They do more damage than good. IF it gets really cold simply plug the truck in for a good 30-60 minutes before starting. A lot of people like to setup a timer.

Good luck and dont forget to post of pics of the rig.

Welcome to the forum.
Coolant: Give it a complete flushing to get rid of that green stuff and refill it with Shell Rotella Extended Life Coolant. It's designed for the diesel engine and is good for 300,000 miles without having to fuss with the additives.

I have never had any problems recharging the batteries leaving them connected.

Hey Dave. Congratulations on the new truck....er, I mean wife.

The stuff for the coolant is called VC-8, but it may still be on the dealer shelf as FW-16. You need to get some test strips and measure the SCA amount before you add any more. That or change it to a coolant that doesn't require the addative.

You can leave the batteries conected they are hooked up in parrall so they will charge equaly. Just hook the leads up to which ever is easiest. For the fuel filter use your oil filter wrench. Make sure you use a new oring gasket and be sure to put it in the right way. Also get underneath and put a piece of 5/16 of hose on the drain outlet so you can drain the fuel where you want and not all over everywhere. Good Luck with the new Wife, you don't need it with the PSD. LPR

Well, I have no idea what an HPOP is and I have no idea where the power stroke cover is unless it's that plastic thing on the top front of the engine. I also have no idea where to find the drain petcock but I'll work on it. But I do thank you all for your words of congratulations. My new wife not only comes with the F-350, she also comes with two horses, two dogs and, best of all, a really cool Grady White fishing boat with twin 200 Yamahas! We both lost our spouses to cancer and found each other in the Home Depot (true story). I come with two teenagers, a Honda, and my baby, a BMW K1200LT motorcycle!
