After market keyless entry
I resently purchased a 2005 E350. It does not have remote door locks. My company E350 does. I really miss them. Has anyone installed after market units? Is it difficult? Can you recommend a brand? I would also like remote start, it seems several units offer this. I am looking at the $199 unit offered by J C Whitney. Is this a good one? A detailed instruction on removing window crank & door panel would be appreceiated. Thanks Mike
sells the kits with remote start for under 70 bux, ive used one of their products, worked well for few years then my remote died. a replacement remote was 80 BUX, so wasnt worth it... that unit had prox sensor and all the works, it was a neat system cost much less than well known brands and does the same thing.
Start by prying the black sail plate off by simply using your hands to grip it and give it a pull. It may lose the clip on the back of it, just fish it out of the door with a magnet if it does come off. Under that is 1 screw.
There is 1 screw in the cup around the handle and 1 under that once it's off.
Lower corner is a little grey cap that pops off and 1 more screw hides there.
The crank has 1 torx screw holding it. Use something to pry the black cover away and remove that screw and wiggle the crank as you pull to get it off. (may take some pretty good tugs to come off)
Once you've got all that done just lift UP on the whole panel and it'll come off. Reverse to put her back together.
I just discovered your instructions tonight. My SPAL door locks & keyless entry just arrived today. With the way the weather has been here I may wait till spring.
Mike
