Question Drivetrain Vibration over 50MPH ??

I just replaced the transfer case and (3) rear U-joints on my FSB. It now has a noticeable vibration over 50MPH that I hadn't noticed before.

The transmission mechanic who did the work says the rear U-Joints are all OK now and he suspects the vibration is coming from the front drivetrain.

Also, I do know the PS Auto-hub is stuck in the locked position. The next fix to install Manual hubs.

Could the PS hub be causing this vibration or what ??

If your hubs are locked, that is where the vibs may be coming from. I don't know much about auto hubs, but my manuals vibrate when ingaged over 45mph.

Also if they did not re-install the rear driveshaft in the same position it came out, that too could cause a vibration. You may have to rotate the drive shaft and the pinion.

Where do you feel the vibration? Seat? Steering wheel? Floor board?

Under the floor board. Not through the steering wheel.

That tells me it is in the rear of the truck...I would try and rotate the drive shaft and pinion. Do you know what I mean by this?

What was the condition of the Centering ball/stud? That's what happend to me. I replaced the three U-joints and after a week of driving, the centering ball/stud went bad. Just something to look for.

Well... I FOUND the source of the Vibration and I AM FURIOUS !!!!!!

I was going to pull the front driveshaft (as suggested above), but decided to double check the rear driveshaft for play etc...

This is what I found upon further inspection.

See if you might see what the problem is here. Do you think my "former transmission mechanic "MAY" have "forgot" to do something here ????????

The picture below is of the CV (double U-joint) that is located on the front of the rear driveshaft. This is the part my "former" transmission mechanic JUST replaced (2) days ago!!!

.

yoiks thats bad! I'd be tempted to take the drive shaft off and hit the mechanic on the head with it to help him focus on the job he is being paid for.
