It can be a number of things. I would first check for vacuum leaks as they are the easiest to find. The IAC may not be working or may need cleaning. Do not clean this thing on the manifold- remove it to do it. Any solvent that gets into the manifold may damage the gasket between the upper and lower manifolds which is another area that may be the problem.

The IAC is the Idle Air Control Valve. It is a cylinder shaped piece that is attached to the right of your throttle body and is held in by 2 screws. There is also a connector going into it. It has an actuator in it and the computer controls it and opens it so air can enter in your engine when your throttle body is closed (your off the gas peddle).

I had that same issue with my 95. Check this post, i explained what i did there. turned out to be a bad TPS sensor. Changed it and all is fine now, well at least with that problem. Checking my codes pointed straight to the problem too.

Yes, and it is most likely the root of your idle problem as well.

Thumbs up well thats part of it

my intake gaskets were shot center of the intake the gaskets were drooping soaked with oil looks like someone in the past had the intake off becouse the lack of a front and rear gasket just a bunch of silicone slapped in there which would explain the huge amount of vacuum draw on the vent tube going to the breather from the valve cover . broke the left side rear bolt had to drill it and tap it putting it back together today i'll let you guys know how it goes
